The association for art psychotherapists in Finland
The Association for Art Psychotherapists in Finland was established in 1979 to pursue and promote the professional interests of its members. The aim of the association is to further the knowledge of the field and to create professional contacts on national and international level. The association organizes training and seminars and when needed also acts on ethical questions.
The members of the association must have completed an art therapy training where the frame of reference is psychodynamic and where in addition to the theoretical education a clinical training and personal psychotherapy are included.
At the moment there is a large reform concerning the psychotherapy education in Finland. This will also affect the training of art therapists.
Since 1995 art therapists have had the possibility to get a state registration as psychotherapists. This has enabled working in private practice.
